These issues can be expensive if unnoticed.

At one of our customer, air loss was a problem larger than anyone estimated.
Their process required 5 of their 6 compressor to be running near 95% capacity
during operations. After the initial leak survey, the major leaks were tagged
and corrected. The result was that they only needed 3 compressors at 95% to
support demand (40% total reduction). A second leak survey was performed and
the after minor leaks were corrected, the demand dropped by 30% additional.
The savings that will result over a five year period is going to pay for the
installation of three more batch production lines. This will increase total
plant production by an estimated 50%.

~~~ new ~~~ Ultrasonic Technology being used in our Bearing Lubrication Programs
A new area that we have been applying ultrasonic technology is in the area of
bearing lubrication. Our PM Service group has been monitoring ultrasonic level
on a meter during lubrication of rolling element bearings. This technique ensures
that (1) the bearing is getting the correct amount of lubricant and (2) the bearing
is not over lubricated. Our application in this area is still too new to see long
term results, but several small issues have come to light that have yielded cost
avoidance dollars. Problems like air filled lube lines and excessive grease piles
have been significantly reduced. One customer is reporting a 15% reduction in
grease consumption during the first six month period. As part of our PM Service,
we routinely record temperatures on bearings and these have trended downward.
